Who the fuck is Luther Blissett?

I had such vivid dreams last night that I didn’t get much proper rest from my sleep.

Anyway, that’s by the by… …yesterday I rewatched a documentary on a girl who had had surgery on her face to remove a huge growth which was destroying her features and stopping her from being able to eat or even breath properly. She was flown from Haiti to Miami for an emergency operation paid for by a charity. By coincidence the first name of the doctor was ‘Jesus’. The girl’s massively religious mother naturally interpreted this to be a sign that God was closely involved, and so it was all prayers and hand-waving and shouts of hallelujah etc.

Her father and sisters were flown in to join her in America after a few days, and the camera showed him with two his two other daughters in the car on the way to the hospital. It was clear that he loved his family and that they were among his main reasons for living. As I watched this, I understood that my own genetic make-up heavily predisposed me to want the same thing.

I gave my last TV to a friend in 1996 and I haven’t owned a set since then, but sometimes I download TV programs via the internet.

Recently I looked through a directory of downloads, and I saw these two titles…

For some reason my brain conflated the two titles and I saw “Sex and Snipers”. After I realised my mistake I felt a little disappointed. I wish there really was a program with that title.

So I was rewatching an old Monty Python sketch this morning titled ‘Hitler In England’.

As well as enjoying John Cleese’s excellent parody portrayal of Hitler, I was given cause to reflect on the historical phenomenon of a centrally¬† important charismatic figure at the head of socialist/communist systems, and I thought that these days most of us are all but immune to that phenomenon because of the plethora of ‘celebrities’ who dilute our need for charismatic figures. In this way perhaps Russell Brand is staving off the next Hitler.

I’m a pub that I used to frequent six or seven years ago. Old memories buzz around me like flies.
