So I was rewatching an old Monty Python sketch this morning titled ‘Hitler In England’.

As well as enjoying John Cleese’s excellent parody portrayal of Hitler, I was given cause to reflect on the historical phenomenon of a centrally  important charismatic figure at the head of socialist/communist systems, and I thought that these days most of us are all but immune to that phenomenon because of the plethora of ‘celebrities’ who dilute our need for charismatic figures. In this way perhaps Russell Brand is staving off the next Hitler.
