I consider myself to be above the people downstairs.

In the search for extra-terrestrial life some scientists forget to wash their hair. At least that’s the message I am taking from this documentary.

My cat has not visited me for the past few days. Actually I don’t have a cat, but that explanation just seems too easy.

Flammable fumes can rise from the surface of alcohol-based perfumes. If you burn this it can produce perfume fume fumes.

Equal rights for the poor (but not equal rights to buy stuff).

Press any key to move a piece of plastic to a slightly lower altitude.

You are less likely to catch a disease from shaking hands with someone if they are left handed. Babies and old people are particularly at risk, and so should shake hands only with left-handed people.

A little learning is a dangerous thing; drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring:
there shallow draughts intoxicate the brain, and drinking largely sobers us again.

– Alexander Pope, 1711

I feel as though I have more than tasted but still not drunk deeply enough. This no-man’s-land of knowledge is a lonely place to inhabit. I bounce between idiots and experts feeling at home in the company of neither.

You almost certainly won’t care about any of this.

I had such vivid dreams last night that I didn’t get much proper rest from my sleep.

Anyway, that’s by the by… …yesterday I rewatched a documentary on a girl who had had surgery on her face to remove a huge growth which was destroying her features and stopping her from being able to eat or even breath properly. She was flown from Haiti to Miami for an emergency operation paid for by a charity. By coincidence the first name of the doctor was ‘Jesus’. The girl’s massively religious mother naturally interpreted this to be a sign that God was closely involved, and so it was all prayers and hand-waving and shouts of hallelujah etc.

Her father and sisters were flown in to join her in America after a few days, and the camera showed him with two his two other daughters in the car on the way to the hospital. It was clear that he loved his family and that they were among his main reasons for living. As I watched this, I understood that my own genetic make-up heavily predisposed me to want the same thing.

I’m a pub that I used to frequent six or seven years ago. Old memories buzz around me like flies.

It’s probably best to right-click on this picture and select ‘view image’.

Most of my friends have already seen this pic, but for people out there in blogland I thought I’d share it here on wordpress…
